Reaching growing numbers of people through sport is important to ParaQuad Tasmania.

Read about the reasons people get involved in Wheelchair Sports and you’ll understand why.

Alysse, who is a regular face at the Wheelchair Rugby Program enjoys the social side of the sport.

“One of the biggest things for me is connecting with other people in wheelchairs,” Alysse said.

“We’re not all world class players, and I’m definitely more on the social side of things, but coming along each week gives me an outlet to join my team mates … I always laugh and it’s great fun.”

Frame Running participant Kyeron explains he likes the freedom this activity brings.

“I enjoy doing it because I just want to run like everybody else,” said Kyeron.

“And people out there who maybe can’t run, we recommend trying, you might feel more confident.”

The number of people who are part of our sports programs continues to grow.

Here are some stats for 2022-2023:

  • Wheelchair Sports in Schools – 3525 students in 36 schools
  • Wheelchair Basketball and Wheelchair AFL – 425 engagements
  • Boccia – 330 engagements
  • Wheelchair Rugby – 130 engagements
  • Frame Running – 31 engagements

If you’d like to get involved, find more information below and email pdst@paraquadtas.org.au to let us know you’ll be coming along.

The benefits could be wide ranging, as they are for Alysse.

“I’ve managed to grow a lot of fitness. Whereas previously I’ve sat behind a desk all day and not done a lot on weekends, now I find I have a lot more energy. I want to do more things and I want to interact with members of my community.”
