A long-time volunteer with ParaQuad Tasmania, and award-winning sportsperson, Josh Christian, can add another string to his bow after receiving the award for AFL Disability Inclusion, Volunteer for Tasmania. Josh’s award is part of 2023 AFL National Volunteer Awards, announced recently.
Josh received the award for showing leadership and mentoring in the world of wheelchair AFL and being an advocate for people with disability more broadly.
Josh’s nomination sums up his achievements and hard work in disability advocacy:
Josh has been an advocate for people with disabilities for many years, and his work has been instrumental in creating a more inclusive and accessible society.
Josh is an accomplished athlete in wheelchair AFL, and he has used his platform to raise awareness about the challenges that people with disabilities face.
He has been a volunteer facilitator for the ParaQuad Tasmania wheelchair basketball program for over five years, and he has helped to develop a program that encourages people with disabilities to get involved in sports. In addition to his work in sports, Josh has been a tireless advocate for disability rights. He has worked with local organisations to promote accessibility and inclusion, and he has been a vocal spokesperson for people with disabilities. Josh’s commitment to disability advocacy is truly inspiring, and I believe that he is deserving of the National Volunteer Award.
His passion for making the world a more inclusive and accessible place is contagious, and he has inspired countless people to get involved in disability sport. Josh has also raised thousands of dollars for disability charities including Ready, Set, Move!
Josh has been awarded many wheelchair AFL honours, including for the best player in a VWFL Grand Final, numerous VWFL team of the week awards and one silver and two, x2 bronze medals representing Tasmania in Wheelchair AFL
Josh will be flying the flag for Tasmania once again when he Captains the state team in the 2023 Wheelchair AFL National Championships, being held in Victoria between 1 and 5 November 2023.
