Have you played wheelchair AFL before and would like to get involved again?

Do you have a physical disability and are interested in playing for the first time?

Are you a wheelchair user and would like to play the sport with a friend who doesn’t have a disability?

If you answered ‘yes’ to any of those questions, you could be part of new Wheelchair AFL programs, organised by ParaQuad Tasmania in the south and north west of the state.

“Players had a terrific time during the 2024 Autum fixture in southern Tasmania,” said John Hayes, Manager of Physical Disability Sport and Education Programs.

“The training and competition brought together experienced players and people who’d never got into a sports wheelchair before. Spectators also really got into the excitement of the sport.”

That excitement has spread and now prospective players are being sought to play in the south and north west, starting soon.

No experience is necessary, just a willingness to have a go! For more experienced players, there’s a pathway to more serious competition.

And Wheelchair Rugby League is making its debut in Tasmania. The National Rugby League (NRL) has officially partnered with ParaQuad Tasmania to offer a new program in schools.

Wheelchair Rugby League is an inclusive game where people of different abilities, ages and genders play on the same team.

Schools can access funding to deliver this program to their students through Sporting Schools, a Federal Government initiative.
