Well done to all the athletes who competed in 2023 ParaQuad Tasmania Boccia State Titles, held at Elphin Stadium in Launceston between 24 and 26 March.

The event saw three days of tight competition and fantastic camaraderie during close to 30 matches.

During the first day the athletes – 10 from Tasmania and four from interstate – played opening round matches to get their competition eye in!

Saturday was non-stop action from 9am to 5pm, during which time all athletes fought hard to make their way into a final. There were some incredibly close games which resulted in tie-breakers. The referees, also from Tasmania and the mainland, were definitely kept on their toes.

It was great to see media at the State Titles to help spread the word about Boccia. Watch the 7 Tasmania news story here.

Sunday saw the finals get underway and after more very close competition, the overall results were:

BC1/2
Gold – Jessica Hooper (VIC)
Sliver – Jack Tori (VIC)
Bronze – Nick Milner (TAS

BC3
Gold – Liam Titterton (NSW)
Silver – Dana Devine (TAS)
Bronze – Rohan Eastley (TAS)

BC4/5/Open
Gold – Ryan Stott (TAS)
Silver – Matthew von Hoek (NSW)
Bronze – Minna Blaney (TAS)

Searching for future talent

It was great to host some of Boccia Australia’s top officials at the State Titles.

Ken Halliday, Boccia Australia Head Coach, and Brenda Tierney, National Performance Pathway Manager kept a close eye on competition and watched some of the athletes in action during time set aside for skill testing and talent identification.

With Paralympic Games and other international competition always on the horizon, athletes can be sure that their skills and dedication are not going unnoticed. We may have star boccia athletes in our midst.

Referees firing and having some fun

A dedicated group of referees officiated during the event and we thank them for their hard work.

Always professional during Boccia rounds, the team took time out for a bit of fun for this photo, showing off their brand new uniform!
