There is an important conversation happening right now in Australia about access requirements for new homes. This is not just talking about homes built specifically for people with disability, but all new homes.

If you have a mobility disability or have friends or family with a mobility disability you have the opportunity right now to help shape a more accessible future!

The Australian Building Code Board has developed an Options Paper, which includes options for possible future access requirements in new homes. http://abcb.gov.au/Resources/Publications/Consultation/Accessible-Housing-Options-Paper

Submissions on the Options Paper are due by the end of November and sometimes it’s helpful to understand how others are thinking and to talk through the options before you write a letter or submission.

A group of people with disability and advocates interested in this issue have organised a meeting to help people better understand the issues and develop ideas for submissions in support of accessible housing.

The meeting will be held at:

Hobart City Council, Lower Ground Conference Room

(off the Elizabeth Street frontage of the Town Hall

accessed via the Town Hall car park)

Friday 16 November from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm.
